Happy Thoughts

Ah, Sunday. I like Sundays. Especially the ice cream kind. But the day is cool too. I enjoy being able to go to church, to worship God and to learn more about Him.

Today, our pastor had a really good sermon that brought me back to my senses. I realized, looking over my past blogs, that I have complained, A LOT, about my job. And yes, my job sucks. But I also have a lot to be thankful for. 1 Thessalonians 5:16 says "Rejoice always;" (NASV). Pastor Dave made a very interesting point. He said that he doesn't think that we are to rejoice in the situation, but in God. Let's face it, life isn't always one big happy party. Sucky things happen, that's just life in a fallen world. But the cool thing is, that as a Christian, this world isn't all I have. Yeah, my job will sometimes suck, and I may lose everything in the next hurricane, but I have God, and the promise of eternal life. Like Dave said, I can go sit on the beach and be bummed out while all the people living in the cold, frozen north (well, it's really only cold and frozen in the winter) can only look at pictures of the beaches down here and wish they could be bummed out on the beach too. I have a lot to be thankful for, and since I made you all listen to my whining, y'all are going to have to listen to my thanks as well.

Let me see, where to start...
1. My husband
2. My loving family (even if they are far away I know they will always be there for me)
3. My cat
4. The fact that I have a job, even if I don't like it all the time.
5. My home
6. I have two full bathrooms (which is great with only two people living here!)
7. The fact that I am in good health and can do things for myself and others.
8. Cooking
9. My abilities to play the french horn and piano
10. The ability to write: poetry, prose, complaints, diaries and really pointless-but-fun-anyway blogs
11. I live 10 minutes from the Gulf of Mexico
12. The ability to read
13. My shoes (every last pair!)
AND, last but definitely the most important of all, my God, and that He has taken the trouble to love me, imperfections (including the odd broccoli in my teeth after lunch) and all, and that He has chosen me to be His child, to live with Him in Heaven when my life is over, never ceases to amaze me.

There, 14 basic things I am thankful for. And there is much more, but I must go make dinner because I am starving so I won't bother to write the other million things down.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone!

Good realization to come to. One of those things you know in your head but you often choose to forget or ignore until it's just too obvious. Thanks for the reminder! :)

don't thank me, thank my pastor, or, perhaps it would be more proper to thank God for giving the thought to the pastor to pass on to me. Although, I did spend all day gritting my teeth saying "rejoice!!!" under my breath. And you know what, it worked! The more I reminded myself to rejoice the more I did.
